Assisted Living Services
Assisted living is for people who are mostly independent but need some daily help: medication reminders, assistance getting dressed, or having meals prepared. It sits between living fully on your own and needing the around-the-clock medical care of a skilled nursing facility.
At MediLodge, assisted living services are available at select locations in Michigan. Residents have their own living space and maintain as much independence as they want, with staff available when they need a hand.
Who it’s for
People who can handle most of their daily routine but struggle with a few specific tasks. Maybe managing medications has gotten confusing. Maybe balance issues make bathing risky without someone nearby. Maybe cooking has become difficult, or loneliness at home has become a real concern. Assisted living addresses those gaps without pulling someone into a higher level of care than they actually need.
What’s included
Residents typically receive help with activities like bathing, grooming, dressing, and medication management. Meals are provided. Housekeeping and laundry are handled. Social and recreational activities are scheduled throughout the week. And because MediLodge is a healthcare network, there’s a built-in safety net. If a resident’s health changes and they need more intensive care, the transition can happen within the same organization without starting over somewhere new.
How it differs from skilled nursing
The key difference is the level of medical care. Assisted living provides personal support and supervision. Skilled nursing provides 24-hour clinical care from licensed nurses and therapists. If someone needs daily wound care, IV medications, or complex medical monitoring, they likely need skilled nursing, not assisted living. The National Center for Assisted Living provides additional resources for understanding the distinction.
Paying for assisted living
Assisted living is generally not covered by Medicare. Many residents pay privately, through long-term care insurance, or through Michigan’s Medicaid waiver programs that cover certain home and community-based services. Our team can help you understand your options.
