Cancer Recovery Services
Cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery) takes a physical toll that doesn’t end when the treatment does. Cancer recovery services at MediLodge are for people who’ve completed or are between rounds of cancer treatment and need a supported environment to rebuild strength, manage side effects, and regain independence.
What recovery looks like
Cancer treatment often leaves people with significant fatigue, muscle loss, weight changes, neuropathy (numbness or tingling in the hands and feet), cognitive fog, pain, and emotional distress. Recovery services address all of these through a combination of physical and occupational therapy, nutritional support, pain management, and psychological support.
Therapy sessions are adjusted to match your energy level. Cancer-related fatigue is real and unpredictable, and pushing through it counterproductively can set you back. The team meets you where you are each day rather than holding you to a rigid schedule that doesn’t account for how treatment affects the body.
Who uses these services
People recovering from major cancer surgeries. People coming off chemotherapy or radiation who are too weak or deconditioned to be safe at home. People who need skilled nursing care for cancer-related complications like wounds, infections, or nutritional deficiencies. People who need rehabilitation to regain physical function lost during treatment. The American Cancer Society provides resources on what to expect during cancer recovery and rehabilitation.
Paying for cancer recovery services
Medicare covers skilled nursing care during recovery from cancer treatment following a qualifying hospital stay. Medicaid, private insurance, and VA benefits may also apply.
