Digestive Disease Support
Digestive conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, severe GERD, bowel obstructions, pancreatitis, liver disease, and complications from GI surgeries can require a level of medical management that goes beyond what’s practical at home. Digestive disease support at MediLodge provides skilled nursing care for people whose GI conditions need professional monitoring and treatment during recovery or a flare.
What the care includes
Nutritional management is a big piece of it. Digestive conditions often limit what a person can eat, how they absorb nutrients, and whether they can maintain a healthy weight. MediLodge’s dietary team works with physicians and nursing staff to develop meal plans that account for medical restrictions, food tolerances, and nutritional needs. For patients who can’t eat normally, tube feeding or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) may be managed on-site.
Nursing care includes ostomy management for patients who’ve had colostomy or ileostomy surgery, medication administration and monitoring, wound care for surgical sites, fluid and electrolyte management, and monitoring for complications like infections, bowel obstructions, or GI bleeding.
Who benefits
People recovering from GI surgeries (bowel resections, colostomies, or other abdominal procedures). People with inflammatory bowel disease experiencing a severe flare that requires IV medications and nutritional support. People with liver disease or pancreatitis who need skilled monitoring. People who’ve lost significant weight due to a GI condition and need supervised nutritional rehabilitation. The American Gastroenterological Association has additional resources on managing digestive conditions.
