Wound Care

Wound Care

Wounds that won’t heal are more common than most people think, and they can become dangerous quickly. Surgical incisions that aren’t closing properly, pressure injuries (bedsores) from immobility, diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and infected wounds all require professional attention that goes beyond changing a bandage.

At MediLodge, wound care is provided by trained nursing staff who assess, clean, dress, and monitor wounds on a regular schedule. The team works with physicians to determine the underlying cause (poor circulation, uncontrolled diabetes, infection, nutrition deficiencies) and address it alongside the wound itself. A wound won’t heal if the thing causing it hasn’t been fixed.

What wound care involves

Regular wound assessments to track healing progress (or catch deterioration early). Debridement, the process of removing dead or infected tissue so healthy tissue can grow. Specialized dressings selected based on the wound type, depth, and drainage. Infection monitoring and antibiotic management when needed. Offloading and repositioning programs for pressure injuries. Nutritional support, because protein and calorie intake directly affect how well wounds heal. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society sets clinical standards for wound management in healthcare facilities.

Who needs facility-based wound care

People with wounds that haven’t responded to home treatment. People with multiple or complex wounds that need daily professional attention. People with underlying conditions (diabetes, vascular disease, immune suppression) that make healing difficult and infection likely. People who are immobile and at high risk for developing new pressure injuries.
